Born...November 1972
Formative years spent...in London,
collecting stamps and playing with Lego.
Mind honed at...Rugby School (A levels in
Maths, French and Art) and Edinburgh University (MA Hons in Spanish).
First Student...April 1992, teaching maths,
English and French to a boy sitting his 13+ common entrance exams.
Since that has taught...over 65 students
between the ages of 5 and 18 in subjects ranging from maths and English, to
French, geography and science; for the past two years she has focused on
teaching maths. Lucy has worked with children educated at home and students
needing support on a weekly basis after school. She has also undertaken several
residential positions in the UK and abroad, including two months in France
teaching a girl moving from the French system to the English system and 10
months in Chile teaching three children. Many of the students she has worked
with have been dyslexic and dyspraxic, so although not being specifically
special needs qualified, she has a good understanding of teaching methods and
approaches that may help students with learning differences.
She's also...worked at an orphanage in
Mexico for six months, both teaching and looking after the kids; been an au
pair in France; taught English in Colombia with the British Council for a year;
assisted in a special needs school for a term and worked in the kindergarten at
an American school on summer camp.
What else...Lucy is an obsessed surfer and
a keen swimmer; she is a hopeless cook but is particularly talented at
cleaning. Lucy lives with her Kiwi husband who is gradually training her in the
art of DJing and the joys of New Zealand rugby.
