All tuition is tailored to the individual needs of the child.
WHAT WE OFFER
-
Hourly tuition in London
We provide tutors on an hourly basis in London. Most tuition takes place in the
family home, with a student working with a tutor once a week (or perhaps more
frequently), be this during breaks in the school day, after school or at the
weekend.
-
Day of tuition outside London
Our tutors are also available to travel out of London – having a 'day of
tuition' where four hours of teaching is broken by lunch is very popular. These
placements often happen at the weekends, during half terms or holidays.
-
Home schooling
We are very experienced at organising full academic timetables for students who
are home educated. Our tutors have worked with students sitting their GCSEs and
A levels, as well as younger students studying Key Stages 1 to 3.
-
Residential
Our tutors are also available for residential positions where a tutor stays
with a family, either for a short period during the school holidays or for
longer periods when a family might be travelling and need to keep their
children up to speed with their studies. One-on-one tuition is intense and,
without any distractions from other students, much ground can be covered. As a
result, we recommend four hours of tuition per day for residential positions.
The tutor tailors the lessons to meet the exact needs of the student. This
means that if more time is needed to cover a topic, then more time can be
taken. Conversely, if a student quickly grasps a topic, the pace can be
quickened. The tutor is constantly assessing the progress of his or her student
and the success (or failure) of a session will affect the plan for the next
day. The remainder of the day can be spent playing sport, visiting the local
area or enjoying other recreational pursuits.
As each tutoring placement is so different, it is almost impossible to portray
a typical day. We are able to give guidelines as to how best to structure a
day, but we leave the final decisions to the client and tutor. Please note that
a tutor should not be considered a nanny or child minder and he or she will
require private time to prepare lessons and relax.
-
Mentoring
Now and again a child needs help and guidance outside the classroom: we have
experienced mentors on our books who, through offering a sounding board for a
young person's worries and problems, can offer advice and support.
HOW WE WORK
-
First Conversation
When you call, we will ask you about your child and what tutoring you require
for him or her. We will ask for your full address and contact details, and also
for suitable days and times for the tutor to work with your child; without
knowing your child's availability, it is impossible for us to place a tutor. If
your child is preparing for GCSE or A level exams, we will ask you for the exam
board and modules so we can check that a tutor is familiar with the exact
requirements of the specific syllabus.
-
Matching a child and a tutor
With the information you give us, we look at the tutors experienced at teaching
children of your child's age in the subject that you've requested. We consider
which tutor would be best suited to your child, knowing the areas in which your
child is struggling and where he or she needs support. Pin-pointing a tutor we
feel to be suitable, we contact him or her to check on availability and to see
whether he or she is able to commit to working with your child. Please note
this can take anything from 2 days to two weeks.
-
Agreeing the arrangements
Once we have found a suitable tutor, we contact you to let you know what we
propose. If you are happy with what we can offer, we confirm the placement by
email with the tutor’s details and what tuition arrangements have been agreed.
Once the tuition is underway, any proposed changes to the arrangements should
be discussed directly with your tutor as we can't guarantee that messages left
with us will reach tutors quickly (please note we have a 24 hour cancellation
policy – please see our terms and conditions for more details). If you are not
happy with your tutor at any time, please contact us in the office. We will be
happy to talk through the situation and either suggest a solution or find
another tutor for you.
-
Terms and conditions
We introduce tutors on the basis of our terms and conditions. Please ensure
that you have read them and are in agreement with each point.
