Born... April 1984
Formative years spent...in peaceful
Brittany, France, pretending to be a severe primary school teacher in her
bedroom using a miniature blackboard.
Mind honed at...Quimper Lycee (Literary
Baccalaureate) followed by Le Mans University (B.A. English Literature,
Language and Civilization).
First student...September 2004 teaching
French to two sisters, aged five and seven, and supervising their homework.
Since then has taught...French to over 40
students between the ages of 7 and 50; these students have included dyslexic
children, teenagers preparing for high-pressure exams (13+, GCSE and A-level)
as well as adults wanting to improve their conversational skills.
She's also...taught French and English to
foreign cyclists coming to France to race (of British, American, Australian and
Polish nationalities); been an au-pair in London for a year; been a French
Foreign Language Assistant in two secondary schools in the borough of Richmond.
What else...Shirley has now taken up
cycling to try and tackle the effects of a particularly strong passion for food
and wine. She has also started a course in Counselling, is a stickler for
grammar and spelling, and enjoys picking up a bargain in the sales.
